Privacy Policy

Information you provide

When you use Kodey, you may provide:

• Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and any display or profile information you add.
• Authentication data. If you sign up with email and password, your password is handled by our authentication system — Kodey never stores plaintext passwords. If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile and email information Google provides to complete sign-in.
• Support communications. If you contact us through the support page, we keep the message and the contact details you include so we can respond.
• Billing identifiers. If you subscribe to Kodey Pro, we store the customer and subscription identifiers needed to manage your plan. See “Billing and payments” below.

Your code and content

Kodey lets you create and store code documents, Code Library files, folders, File Drops, Share Links and other text or code content the product supports.

Your content remains yours. Kodey does not claim ownership of the code or text you create, save, upload or share. We handle it only as needed to store, display, synchronize and share it according to the features you use.

Guest and local usage

You can start using the Kodey editor without creating an account. In guest mode, your documents and editor state are stored locally in your own browser (using browser storage such as localStorage). That content stays on your device — it is not synchronized to Kodey’s cloud unless you sign in and use cloud sync.

Because guest content lives in your browser, clearing your browser storage or switching devices may make it unavailable. If your code matters, keep your own copies.

Signed-in cloud data

When you sign in, Kodey can synchronize your Code Library through our cloud backend so your work is available across browsers and devices. This includes your saved documents, folders and related metadata (such as document names, languages and timestamps), plus sync-related information needed to keep your library consistent.

File Drop and public sharing

File Drop and Share Links let you create links that make selected code or text accessible to anyone who has the link, according to the settings you choose (including optional passwords and expiration). Content you share this way should be treated as intentionally shared content — a link you create is not private once you hand it out.

You are responsible for what you choose to share. File Drop serves uploaded code and text as text for viewing and copying — Kodey does not execute uploaded code.

Billing and payments

Payment processing for Kodey Pro is handled by Stripe. Payment information is processed by Stripe directly: Kodey receives the subscription and customer information necessary to manage your Kodey Pro access, but does not receive or store the full payment card details you enter into Stripe Checkout.

Stripe’s handling of your payment information is governed by Stripe’s own privacy policy.

Technical information

Like most web services, Kodey processes limited technical information to operate and protect the service, such as:

• Authentication and session information needed to keep you signed in.
• Basic device and browser information required to deliver the app correctly.
• Server logs and IP-related information used for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
• Error and diagnostic information used to find and fix problems.

Kodey does not use advertising trackers or third-party marketing analytics on the product.

Cookies and browser storage

Kodey uses browser storage and, where applicable, cookies for practical purposes:

• Keeping you signed in (authentication/session storage).
• Storing guest editor documents and state locally in your browser.
• Remembering preferences such as your editor theme and settings.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings, though doing so may sign you out or remove locally stored guest content.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

• Operate and deliver Kodey’s features.
• Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
• Synchronize your Code Library across devices.
• Provide File Drop and Share Links according to your settings.
• Process and manage Kodey Pro subscriptions.
• Respond to support requests.
• Protect the service from abuse and troubleshoot errors.
• Maintain the security and reliability of the product.

Service providers

Kodey relies on a small number of service providers to operate:

• Stripe — payment processing for Kodey Pro.
• Cloud database and authentication infrastructure — hosting of account data and synchronized Code Library content.
• Google — optional Google Sign-In (only if you choose to use it).

These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to Kodey, under their own terms and privacy policies.

Data retention

Account and Code Library content remains stored until you delete it or request account deletion. File Drops expire automatically according to the expiration you select; never-expiring File Drops remain available until you revoke or delete them. Version history snapshots are retained for the period described by the feature (currently 30 days for Pro).

Billing records may be retained as required for accounting and legal obligations, even after a subscription ends.

Your choices and data requests

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting Kodey Support. We will handle requests subject to applicable law and any technical or legal requirements (for example, records we must keep for accounting purposes).

You can also delete individual documents, folders, File Drops and Share Links directly within the product at any time.

Security

Kodey uses reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect account and service data, including authenticated access controls and row-level security on stored content. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but protecting your code is central to how Kodey is built.

Children

Kodey is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact Kodey Support and we will address it.

International users

Kodey is available to users around the world. By using Kodey, you understand that your information may be processed and stored in the regions where our infrastructure and service providers operate, which may differ from where you live. We handle personal information as described in this policy regardless of where it is processed.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Kodey evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be highlighted in the product. Your continued use of Kodey after an update means you accept the revised policy.
